MSc course covers building services engineering

A Logis Tech Associates product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 6, 2006

A new distance learning programme contains modules that lead to an MSc in building services engineering.

The services engineer is involved with the design, installation and maintenance of all the systems and equipment required to provide a safe and comfortable "built" environment, eg air conditioning, heating systems, lighting design, fire detection, lift technology, emergency lighting etc - a very broad range of mechanical, electrical, energy, environmental and management disciplines.

Logis-Tech Associates has support links to an MSc in building services programme, which is being delivered at a Scottish University.

The MSc in building services engineering is a new programme, with attendance, but quite a few modules are by distance learning, meaning a lot of the study is done outside the university.

The programme structure consists of core, energy/environment and management modules.

With building projects worldwide and a greater awareness of global environmental issues, the role and contribution of the building services engineer is assured.

Employment in the building services industry covers a wide spectrum of activities throughout the design to operation stages of a range of building types from domestic, commercial, industrial and leisure.

Opportunities can be found in a wide variety of industries, including consultant design engineers, contractors, local authorities, hospital boards etc.

Graduates continually find meaningful employment within their chosen profession and are snapped up by many major blue-chip companies.

The entrance requirements is a honours degree (lower second class) in a related engineering field.
