A-1 Technical Training has reported record numbers starting the HNC in Electrical Engineering by distance learning programme.

The course was accredited in September and enrolment numbers for this time of year are up by 36 per cent.

The HNCs in Mechanical, Manufacture, Electronics, Measurement and Control and Building Services will be added shortly.

All HNC in engineering programmes are fully accredited by SQA and are recognised worldwide.

Applicants are assessed individually for distance learning, which is suitable for everyone, but especially those working with little time to spare; those who work irregular hours; and those in remote locations.

These courses can be studied anywhere in the world, at any time, at the student's own pace.

The HNC in Electrical Engineering consists of nine mandatory modules (nine credits), two modules from the options section (two credits) and a graded unit (one credit).

A student needs to obtain 12 credits to obtain a HNC in Electrical Engineering.

Mandatory units include: communication; practical skills; mathematics for engineering 1; three phase systems; electricity power systems; electrical machine principles; electrical safety; single-phase AC circuits; and application of electrical and electronic instruments.

Optional units include: electrical networks and resonance; and mathematics for engineering 2.

On obtaining a HNC a student may be eligible for entry into the 1st/2nd year of an engineering degree.
