A Lifting Solutions product story

Lifting Solutions completes largest ever steel wire rope order.

Lifting Solutions of Thurnscoe has further strengthened its pedigree as a supplier to major global sports events, having completed a major contract on the 15th Asian Games in Doha, held recently in the Gulf state of Qatar.

Lifting Solutions were the main lifting equipment supplier to Stage One, the main contractor on this aspect of the project.

Lifting Solutions supplied an incredible 65kms of dry finish (unlubricated) steel wire rope of varying different diameters, from 5mm - 18mm, plus associated rigging.

David Nixon of Lifting Solutions has been working on the order for several months.

He says: "This is without doubt our biggest ever single order of wire rope, and we're over the moon that we have been able to supply another major international games." Dubbed one of the most technically spectacular sports ceremonies in history, both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies told of a young man on a voyage of discovery through Asia, guided by the stars and his Astrolabe.

The steel wire rope supplied by Lifting Solutions enabled the main contractor to overcome one of their greatest technical challenges ever.

Commissioned to supply all the aerial engineering and associated automation for the ceremonies, they called on Lifting Solutions once again for the South Yorkshire company's reliability and expertise.

No strangers to supplying grand ceremonies, Lifting solutions were the obvious choice to assist Stage One in pulling off this stunningly lavish piece.

Previously Lifting Solutions has been involved in the equally grand Opening and Closing ceremonies for the Athens 2004 Olympic games, again as the main supplier of lifting equipment.

Additionally on further projects Lifting Solutions assisted Stage One with specialist provision of lifting equipment for both the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.

They have also created an incredible supporting structure of steel wire rope to hold up what is believed to be Europe's largest ever banner for the IOC London 2012 Evaluation Committee visit to London last February.

Jonathan Moorhouse, managing director of Lifting Solutions, says: "We are now highly experienced in this type of project, having already supplied major games and projects in Asia, Australasia and Europe, as well as far closer to home.".
