Co-ordinate measuring machine manufacturer, LK, has released a new software module called Launchpad Queuing whereby inexperienced users - typically machine operators from the shop floor - may easily set up their components for inspection It is designed to make the quality control department more efficient and eliminate the need for specialist CMM training

Each successive measuring task is placed in a queue by new program manager software which sits over the established Launchpad package.

The person in charge of quality control is able to optimise the use of the CMM facility according to production requirements by adding, deleting and reprioritising measurement routines using the graphical display of the current job queue.

The status of the inspection program in progress at any given time is also available to him.

Set up initially to suit the user's CMM and family of components, the operator interface screen provides a graphical menu structure showing recommended component position on a grid corresponding to that of the table, as well as program launching instructions.

Each step provides graphical and textual information so there is no need to use a keyboard.

By incorporating on-screen images from a digital camera, scanned product information or a drawing, specific instructions can be given to ensure components are selected, set up and inspected correctly regardless of the experience level of the operator.
