Software sets the mark for inspection

A LK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 20, 2005

Version 4.1 of Camio contains many enhancements and improvements for both offline and online creation and execution of inspection programs.

With the release of the latest version of its internally developed software suite Camio, co-ordinate measuring machine manufacturer and metrology solutions provider LK Group has furthered its goal of establishing the product as manufacturing industry's benchmark for linking the design office, shop floor and inspection departments.

Version 4.1 of the software contains many enhancements and improvements for both offline and online creation and execution of inspection programs.

Moreover, the addition of support for non-LK CMMs, a new interface for manual machines and integration of portable articulated arms allow new categories of customer to benefit from the advanced functionality of Camio.

Support has been added for production run output of Q-DAS.dfd/.dfq files to cover all aspects of statistical process control (SPC) analysis.

The files produced have been accredited for compatibility with the Q-DAS ASCII transfer format.

Commented Tom Stewart, President of Q-DAS: "Compliance with the Q-DAS SPC data transfer format is another example of LK's commitment, through its Camio software, to promote and utilise industry-accepted standards".

"There is now another link from an industry-leading inspection software suite to the SPC analysis world".

Reinforcing its commitment to DMIS (Dimensional Measuring Interface Standard) for open, bidirectional data exchange, LK has made its latest software version compliant with the recently ratified DMIS V5.0 release, which contains around 145 updates, fixes and enhancements requested by users.

It therefore keeps Camio at the highest level of conformity and ahead of the competition.

Said Chris Marriott, LK's Software Product Manager: "Our products, unlike some competitive offerings, utilise industry standard protocols, opening up opportunities for users to interface with, or transport their electronic property to, other systems".

"We firmly believe that customers should have no constraints on choice of application and anticipate that an increasing number will choose Camio for its functionality, reliability and process efficiency".

In the Camio-Studio version, loading and saving options have been improved for most CAD formats including Unigraphics, Catia, Pro/E and Parasolid, as well as for Iges, Step and VDA-FS.

The ACIS CAD engine has been upgraded and so too has the Hoops 3D graphical display engine, providing even faster loading of CAD data so the user can view and manipulate models more quickly.

Camio-Inspect uses the CAD window as a programming aid, displaying constructions, actual and nominal features etc, without employing the CAD model itself.

The software now supports several noncontact laser probes, including the new XC cross scanner.

These are freely interchangeable with conventional touch-trigger and analogue probes, allowing users to choose the most efficient measuring solution across a broad spectrum of applications.

For reverse engineering, new free-form digitising functions are available.

Combined with the various probe integrations, including the XC laser probe, these features offer significant performance benefits.

The graphical reporting package features multi-format pages containing a wealth of information based on CAD data, single-piece and multiple-piece statistical reporting, and summaries, generated in real-time with the display constantly on the screen.

Restore functionality has been added to the existing backup functionality in the database administration utility for archiving and disaster recovery.
