A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) has been launched by LK Group to provide affordable access to the manufacturer's family of metrology equipment.

Called Ascent, the machine provides straightforward inspection for users requiring quick, accurate measurements of their components and reporting of the results, but who are not looking to make heavy investments in capital equipment.

The Ascent aims to bring this technology and metrology expertise to the attention of a much wider audience.

Andy Heath, LK's Hardware Product Marketing Engineer, said: "Everything from the drive units and air bearings to the controller and software is designed to make the machine a valuable, reliable and dependable tool".

The CMM platform is available in three sizes and with three probing options, and is controlled by the same technology found on LK's mid range machines.

It also incorporates RSM, a monitoring and diagnostics tool for pre-emptive service capability, predicting machine wear and providing the user with data on usage and production.

This gives engineers and managers real world insight into the machine utilisation and processes.

Driven by its own machine-specific software, the Ascent draws on modules from LK's Camio Studio software platform.

It lets users program their inspection routines easily and quickly, even directly from their own CAD data, then report on it.
