Multimeter features built-in datalogger

An ACT Meters product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 24, 2009

ACT Meters has launched the ACT720 true RMS datalogging multimeter, which is designed for testing and identifying faults on various types of electrical systems.

The ACT720's features include a built-in datalogger for monitoring equipment independently, storage for up to 43,000 data points and an optical RS-232 interface for download purposes.

It is both manual and automatic ranging, and measures AC/DC voltage and current, resistance, frequency, capacitance, temperature, diode and continuity.

The ACT720 is suited for high-speed data collection or long time studies thanks to its 10 selectable sample rates from 0.05 seconds (50ms) to 480 seconds (eight minutes) per sample.

Stored data points can be viewed either directly on the high-resolution 5,000 count backlit LCD display or downloaded using the supplied RS-232 PC interface with Windows software to plot, save or create graphic displays of event data.

Other features include an analogy bar graph display consisting of 52 discrete viewing segments.

The company said this is useful for detecting faulty contacts, identifying potentiometer gradations and viewing signal spikes.

A 'smart power' detail will shut the meter down automatically after 17 minutes of inactivity.

It also automatically compensates for test lead resistance, as well as the internal protection circuitry, ensuring greater accuracy of low resistance measurements.

The ACT720's functions enable the engineer to quickly and effectively analyse, predict and prevent faults from occurring therefore reducing downtime and cutting costs.

The ACT720 is supplied with a protective and water-resistant holster, built-in stand and belt clip, CAT IV silicon test leads with attachable crock clips, temperature probe, Windows data-acquisition software, RS232 cable interface with nine-pin serial connector, serial to USB adaptor and user manual.
