Improvements to the art of noise (and vibration)
LMS International has upgraded its Test.Lab integrated software suite for noise and vibration testing and engineering.
The innovative Polymax curve fitter not only allows faster modal analyses, it also introduces a reliable solution to solve problems other modal analysis techniques were unable to tackle.
While the application range for modal testing and analysis is continuously expanding, the complexity of the tested structures is also increasing.
Modal analysis is nowadays intensively used to assess the structural behaviour of complex structures with high damping, such as a trimmed car body.

TEDS compliant data acquisition systems
Transducers from PCB Piezotronics equipped with TEDS (transducer electronic data sheets) can now be fully integrated with test solutions from LMS International.
The quality of the modal parameter estimation technologies that were available so far did not provide satisfying results for these highly damped structures.
Customer tests on fully trimmed car body models now show that the new LMS Polymax poles selection method is much easier to use and dramatically faster.
In addition, it produces user-independent results and provides much clearer information on the structural behaviour of the model.
The stabilisation diagrams Polymax generates really speak for themselves, as they permit the identification of a higher number of modes, each with a highly accurate estimation for frequency, damping and mode shape.
This innovation in modal parameter estimation also represents a key enabler in the updating and validation of virtual simulation models.
The insight provided by the test-based model through LMS Polymax delivers a faster, and much more accurate simulation stage earlier in the design cycle.
LMS Polymax is integrated in the LMS Test.Lab Structures suite, a complete solution for modal analysis, combining high-speed multichannel data acquisition with a suite of integrated testing, analysis, and reporting tools.
LMS is renowned for its modal testing experience and scalable solutions, from supporting impact testing on small structures up to large test campaigns using multiple shakers and hundreds of measurement channels.
"In an area where many critics claim no substantial advances were to be expected, the new LMS Polymax method brings a revolutionary modal parameter estimation technique that is easy to use, quick to perform, and substantially reduces operator-dependant judgment", commented Filip Pintelon Corporate Vice-President and General Manager Test Division at LMS.
"With Polymax, LMS confirms its track record of introducing innovative solutions that increase the productivity of test-based engineering and that enables engineers to analyse ever more complex structures". Request a free brochure from LMS International ...
