R and D firm picks standard testing
method
Full-service contract research and development organisation standardises noise, vibration and harshness testing systems using software suite and data acquisition front-end.
Southern Research has selected LMS Test.Lab as the standard testing method for its NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) engineering laboratory in Birmingham, Alabama, USA Southern Research is a full-service contract research and development organisation that conducts advanced engineering research for automotive, aerospace and industrial clients

Test solution claims new productivity standard
A new version of LMS Test.Lab includes solutions for rotating machinery, structural and acoustic testing, environmental testing, vibration control, test data processing, reporting and data sharing.
It added noise and vibration capabilities in 2005 to meet the demand for service from the growing south-eastern US automotive manufacturing industry.
Traditionally, the firm provided the bulk of its core engineering services to the aerospace and military industries.
However, as engineers at Southern Research were asked to perform an increasing amount of work for local manufacturing, they needed to generate more data in shorter time to identify and solve efficiently the root causes of NVH problems.

Toyota gets to grips with noise and vibration
LMS Test.Lab has been deployed as one of the primary systems for vehicle noise and vibration testing at Toyota's European Technical Centre in Zaventem, Belgium.
Southern Research standardised its NVH testing systems using the Test.Lab software suite and LMS Scadas III data acquisition front-end.
The deployment of this software expands the company's capability to perform structural and modal analysis in-house and at a customer's facility.
Percy Wang, Engineering Manager for the NVH Group at Southern Research, viewed selecting the right equipment and software for the NVH lab as a critical step.
"We selected the LMS suite because of the features provided through an extra smooth user interface", he said.
"In acoustic, structural, as well as rotating machinery applications, this suite offers extensive maths processing all within a very user friendly package, which saves us a lot of guesswork and makes technical reporting very efficient".
Test.Lab also allows Southern Research engineers to conduct standard and advanced NVH testing jobs with a single product, eliminating time-consuming data transfers and the need to learn and maintain multiple software tools.
"There are further efficiency increases through the intuitive user interface," said Wang.
"The workflow-based approach allows us to capture systematically all the required steps of routine NVH testing jobs, resulting in shorter test cycles and higher data consistency".
"The advanced analysis tools in Test.Lab support our efforts to analyse the different sources and complex transfer paths that determine vibration comfort and sound quality".
Filip Pintelon, General Manager of the LMS test division, said: "We are very pleased to welcome Southern Research and its engineering division among the large group of LMS Test.Lab customers".
"Once again, the selection of LMS Test.Lab stresses its proven benefits in terms of productivity, scalability, ease-of-use and data transparency".
"We look forward to making the deployment at Southern Research a true success story, and to support the engineering division in strengthening its highly regarded engineering capabilities". Request a free brochure from LMS International ...
