Test solution claims new productivity standard
A new version of LMS Test.Lab includes solutions for rotating machinery, structural and acoustic testing, environmental testing, vibration control, test data processing, reporting and data sharing.
In support of this key competitive advantage, Valeo Transmissions selected LMS Test.Lab to further strengthen its noise and vibration engineering capabilities.
According to company representatives, Valeo particularly valued LMS Test.Lab's productive testing and analysis capabilities, its innovative approach to efficiently tackle torsional vibration problems, and its flexibility to support laboratory and on-site testing.
In selecting a new platform for noise and vibration engineering, Valeo Transmissions looked for an advanced system in terms of technical capability and ease-of-use, since it faces ever more stringent customer requirements and ever-shorter development and testing cycles.
In addition, Valeo engineers frequently perform on-site testing jobs at development or manufacturing facilities of OEMs, with the aim to quickly pinpoint and solve noise and vibration problems.
LMS Test.Lab was found to represent a perfect fit for these stringent requirements.

Toyota gets to grips with noise and vibration
LMS Test.Lab has been deployed as one of the primary systems for vehicle noise and vibration testing at Toyota's European Technical Centre in Zaventem, Belgium.
Its workbook concept that integrates all testing, analysis and reporting steps increases the productivity of testing jobs and ensures repeatable test procedures.
Valeo users also appreciated the ease of use of the workbook-based interface, and expect LMS Test.Lab to be easily accessible for occasional, nonexpert users.
Combined with the mobile LMS Scadas III data acquisition system, LMS Test.Lab enables Valeo engineers to complete a full testing assignment in the field, and to eliminate time-consuming processing and analysis tasks afterwards in the office.

For example, when Valeo engineers perform refinement tests or preproduction audit tests at an OEM's facilities, they can perform all the required tests and validate the quality of their tests on site.
In addition, LMS Test.Lab allows them to process test results in parallel with the data acquisition, analyse causes of noise and vibration problems on the spot and discuss test results and possible design corrections with the customer's engineering team.
The full support of these on-site testing assignments represents an important productivity and service quality gain for Valeo in its interaction with OEM customers.
Transmission systems and components, such as clutches, play a critical role in damping unwanted noise and vibration phenomena.
More specifically, Valeo engineers pay specific attention to designing clutch devices in such a way that they minimise the transmission of torsional vibration effects.
Valeo Transmissions was particularly attracted by the new LMS Test.Lab Torsional Vibration Analysis solution.
LMS Test.Lab offers a unique combination of dedicated torsional vibration measurement functions that run in parallel with other data acquisition routines, and a wide range of spectral and time domain analysis tools for torsional vibrations.
The LMS Scadas III system that Valeo selected includes a dedicated module to perform highly accurate torsion measurements in parallel with the acquisition of other noise and vibration data.
This allows Valeo to analyse the relation between complex torsional vibration issues and other noise and vibration phenomena, and to efficiently evaluate design changes that solve torsional vibration problems.
"LMS Test.Lab provides a complete solution for our advanced requirements in noise and vibration engineering and we strongly appreciate the extensive experience and expertise of LMS", stated Rene Boussuge, NVH Manager at Valeo.
"The ease-of-use of LMS Test.Lab, its capabilities to support on-site analysis and troubleshooting, and its integrated approach to solve torsional vibration issues will enable us to continue delivering highly innovative systems that strongly contribute to the noise and vibration performance of our customers' vehicles".
"We experienced a very productive co-operation with the Valeo team in developing our new LMS Test.Lab Torsional Vibrations solution, and consider Valeo's decision to implement LMS Test.Lab as a strong confirmation of the breakthrough capabilities of our solution in this field", commented Filip Pintelon, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the LMS Test Division.
"In addition, we look forward to supporting Valeo in achieving its multiple noise and vibration engineering challenges and in extending its well-respected status as an innovative and proactive automotive supplier". Request a free brochure from LMS International ...
