LMS to hold vehicle energy management master class

LMS has announced that it will hold a vehicle energy management master class on 10-12 November at its US headquarters in Troy, Michigan.

This three-day technology and application training event is targeted at automotive, trucks and military original equipment manufacturers and suppliers.

The master class will provide an overview of the process to accurately simulate system-level vehicle energy management.

System-level simulation solutions will be utilised to demonstrate the capabilities to address the current and future challenges related to fuel economy and energy optimisation for the automotive, truck, off-highway and military industries throughout the complete design process of their products.

Topics to be discussed during the class include: the analysis of components performance (actuators, heat exchangers and heat storage, for example); the analysis of subsystems performance (such as lubrication, cooling, exhaust and heating, ventilation and air conditioning); the analysis of subsystems interactions and integration within their real-life environment; the integration of new technologies (exhaust heat recovery and regenerative braking, for instance); and trade-off studies for components, systems, architectures and control strategies.

Critical attributes that can be analysed include: fuel economy; pollutant emissions; global energy; flow distribution; vehicle performance (driveability and comfort, for example); and passenger thermal comfort.

Throughout the manipulation of real-life demonstrators, attendees will gain an insight into the scalability (from map-based components or subsystems up to full geometrical representation), productivity (accuracy, CPU times and energy flow-chart post processing) and openness (such as the integration of user codes and interfaces) of the LMS solution.

Several vehicle configurations will be assessed in the class, including classical internal combustion engines, mild hybrid (stop/start, controlled actuators and so on), full hybrid and full electric vehicles.

The master class is intended for vehicle and power train managers and engineers and their management working on components/subsystems performances, subsystems integration and the assessment of solutions.

The class is intended to help attendees: translate these key points into virtual system simulation prototypes; know how to identify unavailable parameters (such as calibration methods and optimisation); predict the impact of new solutions (additional heating strategies and energy recovery); and understand how system simulation will accelerate their design processes.
