New name for interoperability association
The LonMark Interoperability Association has become a new organisation to be known as LonMark International.
The LonMark Interoperability Association has become a new organisation to be known as LonMark International.
This significant change will enable the organisation to better serve its global membership and meet the growing worldwide demand of LonMark certified products and open systems designed for intelligent, connected monitoring, sensing and control networks.
Since its inception over nine years ago, the LonMark Association has benefited from the operational assistance of principal founding member and Sponsor, Echelon Corp.
Echelon will remain a Sponsor member of the new organisation and voting member of the Board of Directors.
The new corporation was established pursuant to 501(c)(6) non-profit mutual benefit status in the state of California where it will continue to be based.
The purpose of LonMark International is to promote and advance the business of efficient and effective integration of open, multivendor control systems using ANSI/EIA709 ("open systems") and related standards.
As with the original association, membership is extended to any person, firm, or corporation engaged in the development, distribution, or marketing of open, multi-vendor control systems using ANSI/EIA709 and related standards.
Current members of the LonMark Interoperability Association will retain their membership status in the new organisation.
Unlike the previous organisation however, most members will belong to LonMark International through a regional affiliate.
A LonMark Affiliate is a nonprofit organisation that is a member of the federation of associations that make up LonMark International.
Organisations interested in becoming a LonMark Affiliate will sign a LonMark Affiliate Agreement defining the terms of the relationship.
LonMark Affiliates will become an extension of LMI by providing local membership services to members.
Membership dues will be paid to the local LonMark Affiliate for membership in LMI and the affiliate.
"I am thrilled to see the LonMark organisation take a giant step forward, particularly as we enter our tenth year as an association", said Barry Haaser, Executive Director of LonMark International.
"The new corporate structure will help us meet the ever increasing technical and marketing demands of LonMark supporters worldwide.
One of the key benefits of becoming a nonprofit organisation is that we can independently and aggressively expand membership through new innovative programmes and initiatives.
Our goal is that LonMark International will embrace the rapidly growing demand for open systems by driving expansion in the markets where we are already very strong and taking a leadership position in the markets where we see emerging opportunities".
