Hybrid insulation is safe and waterproof

A MTI Leewood product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 13, 2006

When Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority needed a material to replace bulky glass fibre in HVAC ducts, MTI Leewood created a new hybrid.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority needed an innovative solution for its HVAC ducts, and a variety of other applications on the interior of its 6000-series vehicles.

The material was needed to replace glass fibre and mineral wool which takes up valuable space and easily gets wet and messy.

In response, MTI created a new MagniPly material, MFSiltec-NM.

This material is a blend of MTI Siltec silicone foam bonded to Meta Aramid (Nomex) sheeting.

The end result is an exceptionally durable, safe and waterproof insulation technology that helps create a secure and quiet environment on this new generation of railcar.

MTI Leewood supplies a wide range of products to various aerospace and mass transit manufactures.

MTI materials are used in unique material solutions for airplanes and railcars, including vibration dampening, flame barriers, sound and heat insulation, and many other applications that require high performance solutions.
