Regional companies encouraged to go green

A Loughborough University product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 21, 2003

Cedar is a new ecodesign training and consultancy service established to assist electrical and electronics companies within the Midlands to meet new legislation from Europe.

On Wednesday 10th December the Department of Design and Technology at Loughborough University will be holding an event to announce the launch of Cedar, a new ecodesign training and consultancy service established to assist electrical and electronics companies within the Midlands to meet new legislation from Europe.

The forthcoming Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive will have a major impact on all companies in the electrical and electronic sectors, requiring them to take responsibility for "end of life" activities such as disassembly and recycling.

The Cedar programme aims to inform design and manufacturing businesses in the region, about the benefits of ecodesign, and empower them to tackle ecodesign issues within their own companies.

The Cedar event is supported by the Sustainable Design Network and the Engineering Employers Federation and key speakers will include Andrew Jenkins, from The Boots Company and Dr Tracy Bhamra, from Loughborough University.

The aim of the event is to provide attendees with information about the implications of the WEEE Directive on their business and illustrate how to take advantage of the high quality, low cost ecodesign training and product offered through the university.

The Cedar event is free to people who work within the electrical and electronic sector.
