Curved jaw couplings extend to motion control

Torsional couplings handle rough diesel outputs
A broad line of shaft- or flywheel-mounted couplings from Lovejoy solves virtually all types of torsional vibration problems common to internal combustion engine driven applications.
This versatile part offers smooth, reliable performance from the punishing cycle of transport required in the aggregate or pulp and paper industries to the more precision timing requirements in printing and packaging, due to the need for zero backlash during operation.
"Market perception is that frictional locking devices are expensive and difficult to size, so they're reserved for highly technical solutions", says Jim Minton, Vice President of Lovejoy.
"Lovejoy SLD is here to shatter those perceptions and introduce a well-engineered, yet affordable and adjustable part that solves engineering and maintenance difficulties associated with other connection alternatives".

Couplings aid pump adjustment
A new series of rigid adjustable type couplings is designed for easy axial adjustment of impeller clearance in vertical pump installations.
The Lovejoy shaft locking device offers a frictional, keyless shaft-to-hub securing system that, compared to conventional alternatives, such as interference fits or welds, providing an easily adjustable (and releasable) mechanical shrink fit for multiple bore sizes in low- to high-speed operations.
"Conventional shaft locking methods, keys, keyways, shrink fit bores/hubs and splines, all have their inherent problems", says Minton.
"A key or keyway system requires a larger shaft to maintain the strength needed to provide maximum torque in the application, and can't provide zero backlash.
And interference fits or welds prevent the operator from being able to easily remove the shaft from the hub for maintenance or replacement".
The Lovejoy keyless shaft locking device uses an inclined plane principle that convert clamping forces generated by tightening locking screws to create a mechanical shrink fit connection.
This frictional, keyless system enables transmission of high-torque and axial loads, and accommodates reversing, dynamic or shock loading.
The shaft locking device from Lovejoy not only eliminates keys, keyways, splines and fretting corrosion costs; it securely fastens hub to shaft, eliminating potentially harmful movement between a hub and shaft that can lead to costly machining, replacement or refurbishing of mated parts.
Lovejoy offers both inch and metric bore sizes that are directly interchangeable with conventional shaft locking devices currently on the market.
