Lorien Engineering Solutions has been appointed by leading cider producer Bulmers to project manage the redevelopment of keg cider production at its Hereford plant.

Lorien Engineering Solutions has been appointed by leading cider producer Bulmers (now part of Scottish Courage) to project manage the redevelopment of keg cider production at its Hereford plant.

The GBP 2.2 million project will see the keg line brought up to date with the addition of new technology and automation.

Project sponsor for Bulmers Martin Keene said: "This investment is a significant vote of confidence in the staff at Hereford and will see improvements in our productivity and the quality of products we are able to supply to our customers".

"It will be a testing few months but worthwhile for the long awaited improvements we expect from the upgraded line".

The project will introduce new methods of keg cleaning, labelling, capping and distribution plus improved, less manual, keg inspection and handling techniques.

Work at the plant starts this autumn and is due for completion by Easter 2005.

Lorien will be providing project management, design and site management services.

Lorien Project Manager Mike Pipes said: "We are pleased to have been selected by Bulmers for this challenging project".

"The objective is to implement the changes in a closely managed multi-phase way that minimises loss of production during the project and costly outsourced packaging".
