A fourth President's Award from RoSPA for Lorien Engineering Solutions has brought its total number of top-level safety awards to 14.

A fourth President's Award from RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) for design and project management specialist Lorien Engineering Solutions has brought its total number of top-level safety awards to 14.

The President's Award is one of the society's highest awards and is given to companies which have maintained a very high level of health and safety within engineering and construction.

Lorien Engineering Solutions attained its first President's Award in 2003, having received Gold Medals for the preceding ten years.

Just 66 organisations in the UK received a President's Award this year.

Lorien's award recognises both a high attainment in construction site safety and the quality of its health and safety management system in assisting clients to construct new facilities safely.

Lorien's key projects over the past 12 months have centred around new and refurbished manufacturing plants for a diverse range of clients including Coors Brewers, Unilever Bestfoods, Scottish and Newcastle UK, 3M Health Care, Safapac and Walkers Snack Foods.

Bill Treddenick, Lorien's Director responsible for health and safety, said: "There are 1.6 million workplace injuries in the UK every year, and the RoSPA awards reinforce the fact that good health and safety is good business".

"Keeping the health and safety message fresh isn't always easy, but Lorien are very proud to have consistently impressed the RoSPA panel over a period of 18 years".

"Good management of health and safety during the design and construction processes is one of the main reasons why we obtain 80% of our business through repeat orders".

During the last year Lorien has helped clients comply with regulations that cover the safety of processes (such as ATEX and DSEAR), and workplace safety (PUWER and CE Marking).

Ivan Briscoe has recently been appointed as a Compliance Consultant to lead this work for the company.

Treddenick concluded: "We have a strong compliance team and we regularly support our staff and clients on a wide range of subjects, from CDM through to Hazop reviews and area classification".
