Lorien Engineering Solutions is consolidating its position as a leading multidisciplinary engineering design and project management organisation by bringing its expertise to a new industry.

As the skills shortage in the commercial construction sector continues to blight companies at every level, Lorien has announced that it will be bringing its mechanical and electrical engineering expertise to the industry.

The Lichfield based business currently has a staff of more than 60 specialists who design and deliver manufacturing capital projects and performance improvement consultancy in the brewing, drinks, food and pharmaceutical industries.

Long-standing customers include Coors Brewers, Walkers Snack Foods, InBev UK and Unilever.

Lorien's move into the sector could not come at a more opportune time; a 2005 Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) survey revealed that 65% of members questioned felt that the current workforce was not sufficiently skilled.

Lorien's Bill Miles said: "Truly skilled engineers are very hard to find and coupled with that, apprenticeships are drying up".

"Lorien can offer teams of qualified engineers with multidisciplinary experience.

"We are keen to work with surveyors and developers around the UK, and we have opened a dialogue with practices at both a regional and national level.

"There is clearly a mutuality issue here as we will require support from time to time from the very people who we need to work with".
