Pumps survive ground calcium carbonate duties

A Larox Flowsys product story

Pumping of an abrasive material causes only a little or no wear at all for LPP pumps because there is no high velocity difference between the pump internal surfaces and the abrasive medium.

Abrasive GCC (ground calcium carbonate) causes high wear in process feeding pumps and the raw material slurry can contain bigger particles that may damage the pump units.

When process feeding is done in batches, pumps are often operated until the feeding tanks are empty and the pumps have to either run with air-mixed medium or totally dry before the operator shuts off the pumps.

LPP hose pumps can easily handle this kind of process situations and they have already been used in GCC processes in various plants.

The LPP pumps are not damaged even if the pumped medium is only air because there is no gland packing or rotor-stator assemblies where process medium is required as lubricant.

Pumping of an abrasive material causes only a little or no wear at all for LPP pumps because there is no high velocity difference between the pump internal surfaces and the abrasive medium.

The operating principle of the LPP enables smooth operation, high reliability and high controllability throughout the whole flow area.

It is based on so called peristaltic effect where a cylindrical rotor rolls along the hose.

The roller is mounted on a crankshaft to enable its eccentric movement.

The hose is compressed by the roller into flat condition at the compression point, which is tight allowing no backward flow through the compressed hose section.

When the rotor rotates along the hose, it pushes the medium forward in the hose bore.

At the same time the hose behind the compression point returns to its round shape creating suction effect at the pump inlet port and the hose bore refills with the medium.

The LPP peristaltic hose pump is a perfect solution for pumping slurries, viscous and aggressive media.

The pump is seal-less and will not be damaged if it runs dry even for longer periods of time.

The pump hose is the only part in contact with pumped medium and is the only wearing part of the pump.

The LPP can handle blockages in the inlet line as it is capable of creating 95% vacuum and it is also reversible.

The strong and rigid casing is equipped with special cassette type seals to protect the bearing.

Thanks to the very smooth peristaltic operation principle, the LPP is gentle to the pumped medium as it does not stir or shear the medium.
