Larox offers valves for offshore-drilling

A Larox Flowsys product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 1, 2008

Larox's valves are suitable for offshore bulk-discharge and storage tanks.

Cement, bentonite and Barite are common media used in drilling operations.

A typical bulk system has four storage tanks, 100 m3 each, which are loaded with raw materials via pneumatic conveying from the rig loading station.

A typical bulk system has four storage tanks, 100 m3 each, which are loaded with raw materials via pneumatic conveying from the rig loading station.

Cement is used in making concrete for the support of casing and bentonite and Barite are used for making drilling-mud.

Mud cools and lubricates the drill bit and keeps the bore-hole pressure under control.

A bulk system usually consists of two separate systems: the cement system, which supplies the cementing unit, and the bentonite/Barite system, which supplies the mud unit.

A typical bulk system has four storage tanks, 100M3 each, that are loaded with raw materials by pneumatic conveying from the rig-loading station.

During filling, air and dust from storage tanks are evacuated to the dust cyclone and dust collector.

The bulk material in the bottom of the storage tanks is fluidised and pneumatically conveyed to the surge tanks.

Typical flow rate is 0-120 t/h.

Larox valves are designed for on-off and control applications involving abrasive powders.

Bulk cement is abrasive and causes wear in conventional butterfly valves.

Larox's valve-benefits include 100 per cent tight shut-off, full bore, no jamming or scaling, simple construction and low maintenance costs.

Valves are typically 125 or 150mm and have pneumatic actuation for on/off and control facilities with local operating possibilities.
