Software cuts XVL models down to size

A Lattice Technology product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 20, 2006

Innovative software module protects engineering intellectual property and reduces the size of XVL models by automatically removing features of 3D models prior to them being shared or published.

New from Lattice Technology, XVL Reducer is an innovative software module created to protect companies' engineering intellectual property and further reduce the size of XVL models by automatically removing features of 3D models prior to them being shared or published.

XVL Reducer is sold both as a stand-alone module and as part of Lattice Technology's XVL System Toolkit.

XVL Reducer is capable of automatically removing certain structural features from within a 3D part or assembly, allowing companies to protect intellectual property that can often be inadvertently revealed by sharing 3D data with suppliers and others outside their company.

XVL Reducer can further reduce the size of XVL data by intelligent reduction of the stored geometry.

A typical use of Reducer would be to remove all internal features of a model, leaving only the outside skin, for use with catalogues and other sales and marketing materials.

With this additional feature reduction, it is possible to reduce the data size to more than half the original XVL file and still maintain a useful, usable, and accurate representation.

XVL Reducer's flexible options allow this to be done in an automated batch environment.

"XVL Reducer reduces the size of the data while maintaining the accuracy and protecting companies' intellectual property by managing data sent to suppliers and others outside of their company", said Bill Barnes, General Manager, Lattice Technology.

"XVL Reducer is just an example of our proactive approach; we are determined to create products that help the overall manufacturing enterprise".

XVL Reducer is available as an individual module and also within Lattice's XVL System Toolkit.

The software toolkit enables batch processes to be applied to XVL 3D data.

In addition to Reducer, there are two additional modules, the XVL processor to manage input and output of property information, and XVL Filter to provide automation and batch operation on XVL files.

Lattice Technology's XVL System Toolkit offers an extensive set of processing functions in command line format; it can be easily employed for server-based solutions to process large amounts of 3D data.

The XVL System Toolkit is designed for manufacturing corporations, where effective use of 3D data is a business matter.

Lattice Technology provides user with solutions for the batch processing of 3D data and systems integration necessary to automate processes.

XVL Reducer is available as an individual package for US $12,500, or within Lattice's XVL System Toolkit for $30,000.
