With WinKGT 32 for Win95/98 and WinNT, Rexroth Star offers an easy-to-handle program for the selection of ball screw drives, where users are interactively guided through each step of the calculation.

The basic program functions (load, save, calculation database, etc.) are accessed using icons, which are on every program page.

The program has been designed for utmost user-friendliness, incorporating extensive graphics to illustrate selections and, by using visual checks, offers a high level of security.

It considerably helps the designer, as applications can be rapidly optimised by varying the input values.

At the beginning of each job, the start window contains boxes for the input of basic application parameters, e.g machine operating hours, ball screw duty cycle, slide weight, screw lead, overall ball screw length and free screw length, as well as a safety factor.

The second window asks for input of all process-related data such as acceleration and deceleration rates, and process forces in addition to the slide mass.

This view can also be used to display various curves (s-t, v-t, v-s, nt, n-s, a-t, a-s) and all single and total forces resulting from the dynamic characteristics.

Once the process cycle has been entered, the next window shows the initial calculation results.

Here the kind of nut to be used (e.g flanged single nut, adjustable pre-load single nut, etc.) is selected.

The next page shows a list of all available standard types and sizes of nuts of the selected kind.

Those that comply with all criteria such as screw lead, desired service life, required dynamic and static load rating, maximum permissible screw speed, characteristic speed D0 x n of the nut system as well as the permissible axial buckling load of the screw, are highlighted in colour.

Once a highlighted ball screw type has been selected, the icon "Bearing selection" can be used to add a suitable end bearing from the Rexroth Star range, which will also be printed out along with the calculation results.

If the user selects a non-highlighted ball screw type, the program will display a message saying which of the calculation criteria are not met.

Completed calculation jobs can then be stored in the user's own database for data management and printing.

A user manual is also provided on the CD.
