Magna Projects and Instruments have been awarded the licence by NPL to manufacture and market the IMAS in-line/on-line rheology analyser for injection moulding machines.

Magna Projects and Instruments have been awarded the licence by NPL to manufacture and market the IMAS in-line/on-line rheology analyser for injection moulding machines.

The system uses a modified patented nozzle to monitor the behaviour of the material during an injection moulding shot, which typically lasts for only 0.7 second.

The system allows the actual flow characteristics of the material being processed to be measured with each shot.

Data measured include shear and extensional viscosities as functions of rate.

These data may be recorded for QA purposes, or may be linked to the machine control computer to provide a signal for automatic or semi-automatic closed loop control.

The system may also be linked to other sampling and measuring instruments, for example for gloss, dimensions, part weight, etc in order to generate a data base from which to rapidly optimize processing conditions and energy usage and to minimize wastage.
