Robot arm aims to reach the unreachable
A novel snake arm robot developed by OC Robotics uses as many as 60 miniature motors to provide freedom of motion.

"Similarly, our technical support staff have a deep working knowledge of the sophisticated components and systems that customers want to discuss".
A graduate of Bedford College, where he took an engineering degree and served an apprenticeship, 33-year-old Derren Todd's career has given him a thorough insight into the engineering industry.
From college, he joined the Ministry of Defence as an IT specialist.
After two years he moved into the private sector and was employed by a number of companies involved in applications as varied as semiconductor equipment, machine tools and converting (conversion of bulk paper into usable rolls).
His particular specialism is drives and controls, and his expertise extends to such areas as programmable logic controllers and other relevant software.
"My main responsibilities have been towards services, installation, fault finding and other support work", Todd summarises.
"To be fulfilled in that sort of role, you have to be working for a well-run company with good products".
"That's what attracted me to Maxon".
"Like my new colleagues, I expect to be enjoying the challenge for a long time to come".
At 24, Peter King is the youngest member of the team but already holds impressive credentials.
After graduating with a degree in electronics from the University of Surrey, his first paid employment involved testing components for spacecraft and airplanes.
He is now studying part-time for a master's degree, sponsored by Maxon, on a project entitled "Signal processing and machine intelligence".
"When Maxon advertised this post I jumped at the chance, as it ties in closely with my training and experience to date", says King.
"I'm particularly enjoying the development of my interest in robotics - a field in which Maxon has a lot to offer".
Welcoming the new appointments, Ellenden added: "As well as increasing our support capacity in terms of staffing levels, both Derren and Peter have brought to the company a depth of knowledge in specific areas that will greatly benefit our customers".
