Motors and gearheads are made for medical market

A Maxon Motor UK product story

Important new products developed specifically for the medical technology market will appear on on stand B203 at the MDT Exhibition.

Maxon Motor will highlight a number of important new products developed specifically for the medical technology market on stand B203 at the MDT Exhibition to be held at the UK NEC on 14th and 15th February 2007.

They will form a representative selection of motors, gearheads and encoders from Maxon's 147,000-plus product range that has proved particularly successful in the medical devices marketplace through a combination of compact sise, low noise, low vibration and very high performance.

"We know that there will be great interest in our smaller products - typically from 6 to 22mm - and for motors and gearheads that are totally sterilisable", explains Maxon Motor UK CEO Keith Ellenden.

"On the electronics side we will be showing our EPOS - which is ideal for procedures such as sample testing and indexing".

Because of their almost legendary reputation for reliability, such products are in demand internationally for duties where failure would be totally unacceptable.

For example, Maxon motors are to be found in body-worn medication distribution systems for conditions such as diabetes - where a compact unit constantly monitors the patient's blood sugar and dispenses precisely the right dose of insulin 24 hours a day.

Maxon motors are also to be found in many different types of artificial limbs, as well as in intra-artery blood pumps designed to keep patients stable during lengthy operations, in oncology where they control the diameter of the equipment's iris during scanning, and in the depths of space where, onboard the space shuttle, Maxon motors help measure astronauts' intercranial pressure.

Just as important, though, to the companies who use these motors, is the exceptional level of technical support provided by Maxon's expert team of sales engineers.

Recognised as the most knowledgeable in the industry, their role is to work with a customer to find the optimum solution to any problem (including doing some of the trickier calculations).

Visitors to the Maxon motor stand will be able to collect a CD ROM that allows motors, gearheads and encoders to be integrated into any CAD-based design to confirm compatibility.

At the same time, they will be able to enrol in the Maxon fast-track product sample service.

"It's all about providing customers with a no-risk solution", says Ellenden.

"And that's something that we believe will resonate strongly with visitors to the MDT show".
