Diamond saw blades prove to be value for money
Jonathan Mather was asked to try Marcrist diamond blades by Phil Osborne, area manager for Hire Centres, Manchester, he found the prices to be about a third of what they were.
Marcrist, a specialist in diamond-based products for cutting and drilling, was one of seven main product manufacturers that were invited to the event.
Travis Perkins provided a range of DIY tasks for Tommy.
His task at the Marcrist stand was to drill a hole through a purpose built brick wall.

Drill tackles seven-inch deep concrete floor
When Invensys Brook Crompton needed to cut through a seven-inch deep concrete floor, it was a Marcrist DCU700 dry diamond core drill which proved the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective option
Abrasives ranges extended with two new additions
Marcrist is launching additions to its bonded abrasives ranges, including products for stainless cutting and grinding, and ultra thin cut-off wheels
He did this using a Marcrist DCU 700 107mm Dry Diamond Core Bit.
This can be quite a dusty job, so the BB-103 wet and dry vacuum system was used, complete with a Combi unit attachment, which makes dust free drilling possible and enables wet drilling through very hard materials, even concrete.
The DCU 700 can be fitted to most popular makes of power drills with motors of more than 600 watt.
It took Tommy just a couple of minutes to drill the hole.
Throughout the day, visitors at the exhibition were encouraged to participate in the demonstrations.
General sales manager, Gareth Matthews commented: "Visitors to the Marcrist stand were interested to see if it was as easy to drill the hole as Tommy had made it look.
We encouraged them to have a go, and everyone was impressed with the capabilities of the equipment." The dry core drilling system that Tommy used was innovated by Marcrist and can be used for both indoor and outdoor work.
The Diamond Core Drill produces perfectly clean holes with no breakout.
This method of drilling holes is quick, effective and - if used with the optional dust extraction - can operate totally dust free, making it ideal for indoor work.
"Tommy showed a great deal of interest in the Marcrist range of products and said that he intended using them in the future," commented Gareth Matthews, "Since the exhibition, we have sent him several of our products including the Diamond Radius Blade which can be used to cut curves and circles into a wide range of materials and is ideal for applications such as landscape gardening and pavement laying." Marcrist is an enthusiastic supporter of its distributor network and regularly attends in-house demonstrations, breakfast mornings, exhibitions and branch openings.
With more than 400 outlets, Travis Perkins is one of the largest builders merchants in the UK.

The exhibition, which was aimed at contractors, end users, DIY enthusiasts and the DIY trade, was well attended and a great success for Travis Perkins.
