GPS system monitors pass by noise

A M+P International product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 25, 2008

M+P International's PBN solution enables audible tones and indicators to help the operator adjust the throttle position for the on and off points, allowing quick tuning and repeatable results.

Cooper Tire operates several test tracks across the USA for noise and vibration design and development.

The company also provides services in areas such as vehicle noise testing.

Recently, Cooper Tire chose M+P International's GPS based pass-by-noise (PBN) testing system.

Test Track Director Carson Miller said, "We looked at every system on the market for our application".

"M+P's GPS triggering, customisation and single-button export to our result format was unmatched".

This system is the only currently available PBN solution which does not require optical triggers and radar units.

Optical triggers and radar units prevent flexible setup and have many mechanical limitations.

Different vehicles sizes and tests often require the trigger point to be moved.

M+P International's PBN solution enables audible tones and indicators to help the operator adjust the throttle position for the on and off points, allowing quick tuning and repeatable results.

The latest ISO 362 and ECE Reg 51 revision 3, which add significant new measurement requirements over and above the old procedures, have been implemented along side the existing 1998 standards, allowing direct comparison of data as required during the transition period.
