Matsushita Electric Works has introduced the AXA2 socket designed to withstand insertion and removal in excess of 10000 times, and featuring a soft "click" insertion mechanism

The global market is growing rapidly for flash-memory based and SD RAM removable memory cards, rather than board to board chips.

In response to this Matsushita Electric Works has introduced the AXA2 socket designed to withstand insertion and removal in excess of 10000 times, and featuring a soft "click" insertion mechanism.

These sockets can be used for any application requiring an SD RAM card or Multi Media card such as digital music players and cameras, personal digital assistants (PDAs), video cameras, cellular phones and other digital consumer electronics products.

Porosity Treatment Significantly Increases Reliability Porosity treatment is a process developed by Matsushita that covers pinholes in the gold plating on the contacts with an extremely thin film.

This process improves resistance to corrosion and insertion/release durability by protecting the plating underneath.

As a result of this treatment, contact resistance is equivalent to a gold plating thickness of 0.7 microns even though the actual thickness is only 0.2 microns.

Slim Design with Electrostatic Shielding to Protect Memory Card The Standard mounting type has a profile of only 3.0mm and eject detection is available by special order.

The Reverse mounting type has the lowest profile in its class at only 2.65mm and also boasts the smallest PC board mounting area.

It also has a simple card lock for improved control.

Memory cards are very sensitive to static build up.

To prevent damage, the socket has electrostatic shielding which effectively earths the card on insertion and removal.

This shielding is common to both Standard and Reverse mounting types.
