A new range of low cost M18 style photoelectric sensors is now available from Matsushita Electric Works UK, providing solutions for almost all optical sensor applications.

The M18 sensors are available in three different sensing types: diffuse, through-beam and two modes of retroreflective, one of which is fitted with polarising filters for use in applications where detection of specular objects up to distances of 1.5m is required.

Measurement ranges for the other sensing types are up to 12m for the through-beam, 2m for the standard retroreflective and 300mm for the diffuse.

All models are available in either a plastic or metal housing, both offering IP67 environmental protection and an operating temperature range of -25 to +55C, allowing use in outdoor control applications.

Cabled versions, 2m long cable, and connector versions, M12 connectors are also offered on all models.

It is possible to extend the cable length by up to 100m if necessary.

Requiring an industry standard supply voltage of 10-30V DC, reverse polarity protected, the sensors can be specified in either PNP or NPN type transistor outputs offering short circuit protection and up to 100mA load capability.

Selection of light-on/dark-on sensing operation is via a fourth wire in the cable or connector assembly.

To complement the range of sensors there are a number of optional accessories available in the form of reflectors, several types of mounting bracket and two standard lengths of cable (2 and 5m) with either straight or elbow type connectors.
