Michael Smith launches micro annular gear pumps

A Michael Smith Engineers product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 15, 2008

Michael Smith Engineers has launched its MZR 7255 micro annular gear pumps.

These hermetic sealed and chemically inert series of pumps utilise rotary micro annular gear technology, which ensures precise dosage and low pulsation, so they are particularly suited to pharmaceutical applications where the trend exists for smaller, more efficient production lines.

For example, many pharmaceutical companies would manufacturer products in batches on larger production facilities, meaning equipment would be idle for longer periods.

With the introduction of pumps such as the MZR, smaller volumes of product can be manufactured without compromising accuracy and this has suited the demand for smaller manufacturing plants.

As a result, smaller plants can be run continuously and this has helped maintain product consistency in addition to contributing to savings in space and running costs.

The MZR 7255 pump features rotors, bearings and shaft components made from materials such as ceramics and SSiC (sintered silicone carbide) and these materials, combined with a magnetic coupling, enable the pump to operate effectively in the most demanding fluids transfer applications.

Typical applications are varied and include; liquid sampling and micro-reaction in chemical engineering, dosing additives, spray technology, inks and paint dosing in production systems and DNA analysis and insulin dispensing in analytical and medical and biotechnology applications.

These compact pumps measure just 146 x 70 x 72mm and weigh approximately 3,300g.

They incorporate a precision motor and easy-to-use control functions and are designed for flows from 0.048ml/min up to 288ml/min and maximum system pressure of 80 Bar.
