Cost-effective drives for turning optical systems

A Newport Spectra-Physics product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 31, 2002

A series of motorized drives allow a cost-effective and time-saving integration of Newport motion control technology to custom or third party products.

EM series motorized drives allow a cost-effective and time-saving integration of Newport motion control technology to custom or third party products.

Alternatively, they can be used for direct rotation purposes to turn filters, diaphragms, or other optics.

The EM drives consist of either a DC servo or 2-phase stepper motor with a precision 2000 pts optical encoder mounted on the rotating shaft.

The encoder also includes an index pulse for precision homing.

On the side of the drive is a sub-D 9 pin connector which enables the convenient control of end-of-run signals through the same main 25 pin connector.

A 3 m long cable for direct interfacing with Newport's electronics is included as well.

products Key features * Motorized drives for easy adaptation to third party products * Low-cost rotation stage for custom loads * Precision 2,000 pts encoder including index pulse for homing * 9 pin connector provides convenient control of end-of run through the same main connector.
