Stronger motors speed stages

A Newport Spectra-Physics product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 20, 2004

MFA linear stages offer a stronger motor that produces almost ten times faster motion than the popular MFN series they succeed.

Featuring a superior drive chain for improved motion sensitivity and repeatability, Newport's MFA linear stages offer a stronger motor that produces almost ten times faster motion than the popular MFN series they succeed.

Despite these advances, the length of the motor block has been reduced by 7mm.

Designed for space-limited applications and compact multi-axis assemblies, MFA linear stages supply very high resolution, single axis translation in a low-cost motorized package.

Typical applications include fibre-optic alignment, laser research, biomedical applications and inspection systems.

Two variants of MFA linear stages are available.

The MFA-CC features a miniature DC motor with integrated gearbox and a motor-mounted high-resolution rotary encoder with 2048 counts per revolution.

It is designed for applications that require small incremental motion with high dynamic speed range and good repeatability.

The stepper motor version MFA-PP is an affordable solution for less demanding applications and is compatible with new NSC100 NewStep controller.

The MFA series will be available for sales in March 2004 and will be in the next Newport Resource 2004 cattalogue to come out in April.
