Blue laser handles demanding OEM applications

A Newport Spectra-Physics product story

The Excelsior-473 low-power continuous-wave solid-state laser emits light in the blue wavelength range, and has been designed for demanding OEM applications.

Spectra-Physics, a division of Newport Corp, has unveiled the Excelsior-473 low-power continuous-wave solid-state laser.

The new lasers, which emit light in the blue wavelength range, have been designed for demanding OEM applications including digital photofinishing, confocal microscopy, laser induced fluorescence and interferometry.

"We are pleased to expand our Excelsior product line and offer new products at 473nm".

"Like the Excelsior 532 that was announced in May 2005, this newest member of the Excelsior family offers the smallest footprint in its class and is easy-to-integrate and operate", said Jurgen Niederhofer, Product Manager for Spectra-Physics.

"In addition, the Excelsior-473 lasers are available with the same 15-month, unlimited hour warranty that is offered with our Excelsior-532 product".

The Excelsior-473 lasers are single frequency lasers with output power levels of 5 or 10mW.

The superior thermal management of the laser head ensures minimal frequency drift when operating in harsh environments.

An integrated active light loop guarantees that every Excelsior-473 laser delivers outstanding power stability.

A patented intra-cavity doubling technique generates visible light at 473nm with high conversion efficiency, resulting in lower overall power consumption and exceptionally low optical noise.

The Excelsior-473 laser is operated from a single 5V supply line and uses less than 30W of electrical power.
