Solid state laser reliability comes at lower cost

A Newport Spectra-Physics product story

The Centennia TD laser is targeted at a wide range of applications including subtitling of motion pictures, green optical tweezers and laser light shows.

Spectra-Physics, a Division of Newport, and a leading supplier of diode-pumped solid state lasers has released the Centennia TD laser.

Delivering the ease of operation and reliability of a solid state laser at lower cost, the Centennia TD laser is targeted at a wide range of applications including subtitling of motion pictures, green optical tweezers and laser light shows.

"While the majority of Spectra-Physics customers still will demand the superior product specifications that are only available from our Millennia Pro lasers, we are pleased to offer a cost-effective alternative to those customers that want the reliability of a solid state laser and can tolerate less sophisticated optical performance for their applications", said Michael Kauf, Product Manager at Spectra-Physics.

"The Centennia TD is an excellent choice for customers that want higher reliability than gas lasers, and better beam quality than is available from multi-mode solid state devices".

Spectra-Physics' first Centennia laser, the Centennia TD5, is a diode-pumped solid state continuous wave (CW) laser at 532nm.

It features 5W of stabilised output power in fundamental mode (TEM00), noise performance of better than 0.4% and a beam profile with an M2 of better than 1.2.
