Laser targets ultrafast applications

A Newport Spectra-Physics product story

An enhanced version of the industry-leading Mai Tai laser delivers more than 2.5W of average power and is now available with a 700-1020nm tuning range.

Spectra-Physics, a Division of Newport and a worldwide leader in ultrafast lasers, has developed an enhanced version of its industry-leading Mai Tai laser.

This latest addition to the company's line of Ti:sapphire laser products delivers more than 2.5W of average power and is now available with a 700-1020nm tuning range.

In addition, the laser is fully computer controlled and produces 100fs pulses.

"Our new Mai Tai HP is the highest performance one-box laser available for ultrafast applications such as time-resolved spectroscopy and multiphoton imaging", said Ian Read, Product Manager at Spectra-Physics.

"The enhanced tuning range simplifies experimental design because it delivers significantly more flexibility".

"It enables researchers to more easily design their experiments because they are not limited by the laser's wavelength tuning capabilities".

"In fact, this new Mai Tai laser can help reduce equipment costs because it eliminates the need for a second infra-red laser that had been used in the past to cover wavelengths that were not available from other one-box Ti:sapphire solutions".

With its new tuning range, Spectra-Physics' new Mai Tai HP enables two-photon excitation of all commonly used fluorophores, including the fluorescent proteins.

The high power makes the new laser an ideal solution for other nonlinear spectroscopy applications where pulse energy is critical, and allows deeper penetration into tissue when used in multiphoton bio-imaging.

Each Mai Tai laser features fast and smooth automated wavelength tuning that is ideal for real-time excitation profiling, as well as unmatched pointing stability that eliminates the need to realign the experimental setup.

In order to maintain the highest possible reliability, the new Mai Tai HP incorporates Spectra-Physics ProLite laser diodes.
