Single-diode laser bar puts out high power

A Newport Spectra-Physics product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 25, 2008

The Corvus series uses technical advancements in bar geometry design and beamshaping technology to efficiently fibre couple single-diode laser bars.

Newport's Spectra-Physics Lasers Division has released ProLite Xt Corvus high-brightness fibre-coupled bars.

The new Corvus series provides the industry's highest brightness from a single bar solution, delivering more than 35W of output power from a 100um fibre.

Patricia Browne, Product Marketing Manager for Newport's Spectra-Physics Lasers Division said "We believe that the inherent advantages of these diode lasers make them a suitable solution for applications such as advanced fibre laser pumping and direct material processing".

"They are also an excellent choice for many customers developing solutions for the aerospace and defence and life and health science markets".

The Corvus series uses technical advancements in bar geometry design and beamshaping technology to efficiently fibre couple single-diode laser bars.

A low numerical aperture, small-diameter, single-core fibre provides a high-intensity, high-brightness >3MW/cm2-sr output.

In order to ensure maximum flexibility, the passively-cooled ProLite Xt Corvus lasers support a wavelength range of 790-980nm.

In addition, the field serviceable fibre design minimises downtime for fibre pumping, plastics welding and other material processing applications where serviceability is critical.
