Menard Competition Technologies (MCT) will be supplying Superleague Formula with engines for the new series, which launched today.

Menard Competition Technologies (MCT) will be supplying Superleague Formula with engines for the new series, which launched today.

The championship, which commences in August 2008, is a concept using single-seater chassis and supported by some of Europe's leading football teams, including AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto and Olympiacos.

MCT's team of world championship-winning designers came up with the concept of a lightweight V12 engine to propel the cars.

A compact 4.2-litre unit was designed specifically for the series, the engine producing in excess of 560kW at 11,750rev/min, at the flywheel.

The unit weighs in at 140kg, measuring just under 700mm in length.

Superleague Formula's Competition Director, Robin Webb, one of the key personnel behind the SF concept, is delighted that MCT will be the engine partner to the series and noted: "It's great news that MCT has joined us to deliver an utterly technical package that will excite driver, sponsor and, most importantly, spectator".

"We are extremely excited about Superleague Formula and the marketing opportunities the concept opens up for our commercial partners".

"Yet, for the programme to succeed, it needs a market-leading technical platform".

"With the expertise of MCT and its championship-winning success behind us, we are giving ourselves exactly that".

Charlie Bamber, Managing Director of MCT, noted: "We're delighted to be working alongside the Superleague Formula team on the project".

"The V12 design, as well as being at the forefront of contemporary engine design philosophy, is one that will excite crowds across the world by bringing the music and noise of the track to mix with the football-inspired fervour of the grandstands".
