Small gear motor is big torquer

A Midwest Motion Products product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 20, 2007

Compact gear motor promises long life battery charge, very quiet "stealthy" operation and lower cost drive electronics.

Available now from Midwest Motion Products, the Model MMP-TM55-90-12V GPk52-124 DC gear motor runs from any 12V DC source, including battery power.

This robust gear motor measures just 54.5mm diameter by 195.6mm long, and has a keyed output shaft of 12mm diameter by 25mm long.

The output of this reversible gearmotor is rated for 14Nm continuous torque, at 3.2rev/min, and 20Nm peak.

Despite its compact size and weight of less than 3.2kg, it's an efficient design, requiring just 1.0A at 12V DC to generate its full load torque.

That translates into long life battery charge, very quiet "stealthy" operation and lower cost drive electronics.

Motor windings for 24, 36 and 90V are available.

This design is rated at an IP54 protection level for operation in harsh environments.

Variable speed can be accomplished with the fully compatible Model MMP 25A-12V or MMP 20A-12V-RSP speed control.

Samples are available from stock for rapid prototyping needs.
