Mega Electronics has added a low-cost, compact CNC machine to its range of board prototyping tools for the electronics designer.

Mega Electronics has added a low-cost, compact CNC machine to its range of board prototyping tools for the electronics designer.

The new CCD/2 will produce isolation-routed and drilled PCBs direct from CAD data without the need for chemical processing.

It features a small footprint of only 800 ? 800 mm, and has a working travel area of 270 - 320 mm with up to 30 mm height of material.

The system uses low-cost industry-standard tools, with manual or semi-automatic tool change.

A high-frequency spindle operates at 60,000 rev/min, and maximum speed per axis is 6m/min.

It will drill five holes per second or 18,000 holes per hour.

Windows-based software ensures ease of use and compatibility with standard CAD formats including Excellon, Sieb and Meyer and HP/GL.

Two-axis control ensures high quality, and a plated-through-hole accessory is available as an option.

The CCD/2 with Windows software costs less than £5000.

A family of larger machines is also available, including systems with automatic tool-change options.
