Chinese facility passes ISO audit

A Memsic product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 8, 2003

Memsic's facility in Wuxi, China has passed a ISO/TS16949 certification audit, demonstrating that its products meet the strict requirements of the automotive market.

Memsic, a provider of CMOS-based MEMS accelerometers/sensors, has learned that its manufacturing facility in Wuxi, China passed the ISO/TS16949 certification audit that was performed in early December, 2002.

ISO/TS16949 is an ISO technical specification that sets rigorous quality management system requirements for the design, development, production and installation of automotive-related products.

Memsic is using these stringent standards to build automotive quality into all of its products to meet the needs of the marketplace.

The Wuxi plant was audited by the TUV Management Service on December 5th and 6th of 2002 and received confirmation that it had successfully passed the comprehensive audit on December 20th.

"Passing this audit ensures that all of Memsic's products meet the strict requirements of the automotive market, regardless of industry application", said Memsic CEO, Dr Yang Zhao.

"This certification stresses our ongoing commitment to provide all of our customers with the highest standard in product quality and customer service".

ISO/TS16949 was developed by the International Automotive Task Force and the Japan Automobile Manufacturers' Association in association with the ISO to maintain one quality system registration to meet multiple automotive customer quality requirements.

In addition to avoiding multiple certification audits, ISO/TS16949 has been designed to improve product and process quality while increasing efficiency and reducing variation.

Established in 1947 to standardise and facilitate the international exchange of goods and services, the ISO has developed over 13,000 standards, the most common being ISO9000, which is a series of international quality management standards and guidelines that has earned a global reputation as the basis for establishing quality management systems.

ISO/TS16949 is designed to replace QS9000 in the USA.
