A new fireproof software safe developed by plastics design and moulding firm Meese Orbitron Dunne is rotationally moulded from crosslinked polyethylene in a seamless, insulated, double-wall design to secure CDs, tapes, diskettes, microfiche, data cartridges and other sensitive computer media from fire, water, heat, humidity and theft.

The only safe of its size to meet the demanding 1h UL Class 125 fire rating, according to its manufacturer Fire King International, the stand-alone MediaVault safe features a breakthrough design that permits the gap between the double walls to be injected with fire retardant soda ash through moulded-in openings, then compacted, sealed and covered with melted, spin welded polyethylene closures.

The result is a seamless cocoon of protection that virtually eliminates the potential for record contamination due to soda ash leakage common to seamed steel and vacuum formed products.

To accommodate the one-piece cover without compromising fire resistance and security, the safe includes a moulded-in hinge that demanded the joints meet exceedingly tight tolerances for strength and flatness.

The cover also includes a moulded-in threaded insert that permits the addition and assembly of a security lock without risking damage to the safe or cover.

The MediaVault safe measures 10.5 x 11.625 x 17.5in outer dimensions and 5.875 x 6.25 x 8.875in inside dimensions.
