New from Metronom are the SRS Spatial Reference System for verifying/calibrating 3D measuring equipment, and the Wise-gap system for inspecting gaps in a static or dynamic mode.

Metronom UK has secured exclusive European rights to distribute and sell the Spatial Reference System (SRS) for verifying/calibrating 3D measuring equipment, and the Wise-gap system for inspecting gaps in a static or dynamic mode Both products carry worldwide patents

The SRS is billed as the most advanced, state of the art three-dimensional measurement artefact available today.

The SRS is a patented, 3D artefact, available in a variety of sizes.

The system can be used to verify and/or calibrate the accuracy of 3D measuring equipment, such as CMMs, portable measuring arms, machine tools, trackers, photogrametry equipment etc.

Any measurement instrument can measure the SRS calibrated, nominal lengths, allowing a comparison of the actual length with the nominal length values, meaning deviations can be quickly detected.

SRS is supplied as a tetrahedron constructed from six carbon-fibre bars, each with a metallic end cap that connects to a sphere.

Each sphere connects to three bars creating the tetrahedron.

The bars have a coefficient of thermal expansion of 0.1ppm/C so the effect of changing, or different temperatures is negligible.

The bars are calibrated in a UKAS Accredited calibration facility with a tolerance of less than 5um to a confidence level of 95%.

The bars are therefore very stable and very accurate, allowing them to be used as true artefacts when measuring machine tools, CMMs, laser trackers, portable arms etc.

The SRS bars are available in standard sizes of 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000mm, but can be tailor-made to order.

SRS software provides the user with a powerful analysis tool to interpret, trend and forecast the measurement data.

The revolutionary Inora algorithms for automatic error protection and optimisation support the software.

Wise-gap is an engineering and production tool designed to inspect gaps (eg seal gaps on cars) in a static or dynamic mode.

The Wise-gap system consists of a strain-gauge based measuring device used to dynamically measure gaps that cannot normally be accessed, eg a car door or car boot.

Wise-gap uses a radio frequency to transmit the measurements, to enable the system to be used in closed environments.

This system provides exact measurement on the gap and the dynamic behaviour of the door/boot during closure.

It can also be used to monitor car body shells during high speed wind tunnel testing or similar tests.

The Wise-gap system is available in a handheld Palm Pilot system with either two or four sensors, or a PC based system that is available with multiple sensors.

David Davies, of Metronom UK commented: "We are delighted to be able to offer innovative and exciting solutions".

"We aim to bring unique products to the European market and to supply innovative measurement solutions to resolve metrology problems across a range of industries with our Spatial Reference System (SRS), Wise-gap system and Inora algorithm".
