Glow wire connectors have standards covered

A Metway Electrical Industries product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 25, 2005

A new range of halogen-free glow wire connectors are the first such products to meet the criteria of both the EN60335-1 performance standard and the RoHS environmental standard.

Metway Electrical Industries is now supplying a new range of halogen-free glow wire connectors, the first such product to meet the criteria of both the EN60335-1 performance standard and the RoHS environmental standard relating to electrical appliances.

EN60335-1 relates to the stringent testing of insulating plastics via penetration from a glow wire heated to 750C for up to 30s.

The resulting flame must not blaze for more than 2s in order for the materials to meet specification.

The RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive stipulates that, from 1st July 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment must not contain lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs).

These toxic elements must be replaced with other substances.
