Moog Controls celebrates 40 years in Tewkesbury

A Moog product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 11, 2008

Moog Controls, the aerospace and industrial specialist, has celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Moog Controls, part of the global Moog Corporation, has its roots in the design and manufacture of high performance precision motion control solutions suitable for customers in the industrial and aerospace business sectors.

Bill Moog started the Moog business when he created a lightweight hydraulic servo-valve that allowed aircraft designers to control large flying surfaces.

These valves were light, which added design flexibility - important at the start of the jet age and for the impending growth of passenger air travel.

These valves are still in use today.

Since then Moog has developed a range of technologies and products in 35 locations, with five operating divisions and more than USD1.8bn in revenue.

At the Tewkesbury facility, a variety of industrial and aerospace products are designed, manufactured, developed and implemented, including complete aircraft flight control and actuation systems and specialist micro valves for Formula One cars.

Barry Morgan, who has worked at Moog for 35 years, said: 'In all the time I have worked here, Moog has consistently offered opportunities for people to develop their skill and careers and is most certainly a people-orientated company.' Moog Controls is one of the largest companies in the Gloucester area and supports several local activities and programmes.

It has links with the Alderman Knight School and supported the 2007 flood fund and the recent 'Over the Rainbow' celebration held at Tewkesbury Abbey.

Moog has training links with Gloucester College and sponsors some major initiatives at the University of Bath, itself a centre of excellence in fluid power and motion control expertise.
