A space-saving power distribution board that meets the specialised needs of Internet and other data centres has been launched under the Merlin Gerin brand Unlike conventional distribution panels, the Merlin Gerin Power to rack board is installed in 19" racking, the standard system for mounting IT and telecoms equipment

This format saves valuable floor space and is easier to integrate with existing IT equipment.

With a height of up to 47U, Power to rack provides electrical outlets for up to 110 data centre supplies.

Two pole outlets up to 20A can be fitted with fixed sockets, enabling new servers and other equipment to be quickly added without isolating the whole board.

This is a vital feature for Internet co-location and other data centres that frequently need to add new servers while avoiding extremely costly server downtime.

The distribution board can also be supplied in partially filled cabinets, for example the lower two-thirds of a stack.

This provides additional space for IT equipment without the need for extra floor space.

Rapid installation is another benefit of Merlin Gerin Power to rack.

The free-standing board allows underfloor cabling to be brought directly through the bottom of the unit straight to the incoming terminals.

To further ease wiring, the cabinet's sides, back and front can be removed for easy access.

Power to rack is available with a range of incoming configurations up to 400A and can have a variety of outgoing miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), terminals and sockets.

The distribution board can be fitted with power monitoring equipment to meter incoming supplies and each individual outlet.

Power to rack can also incorporate active harmonic filtering to eliminate the harmonic interference of power supplies caused by most IT and telecoms equipment.
