Robust, durable industrial plugs and sockets
When used with Merlin Gerin Pragma K enclosures, the new PK range of plugs and sockets form a distribution system that can combine protection using MCBs and distribution in the form of socket outlets
To meet Colt's needs, Merlin Gerin came up with a solution based on the Schneider Electric Transparent Building concept, combining standard Merlin Gerin products with innovative web technologies.
David Reed, Product Marketing Manager for Merlin Gerin's Low Voltage Switchgear Division, says: "To free up space inside the repeater station, we used low voltage NS feeder pillars, which were installed outside.
These are fitted with the NS range of compact NS moulded case circuit breakers and a Momentum PLC, which communicates only in the event of loss of supply down an ISDN or analogue phone line and linked with Colt's Building Management System".
Viewable through a standard web browser, the password protected web pages let authorised users access distribution network information quickly and easily from anywhere on the globe at any time.
A single company technician can therefore control the global electrical distribution network from the UK Information about status and condition of each LV feeder pillar is displayed on web pages.
Incoming and outgoing supplies are continuously monitored for overloads and cable faults by the Momentum PLC.
The company technician can see the current trending on each feeder pillar and close each individual circuit breaker in turn.
Leo Dipol, Technical Infrastructure Manager for Colt, says: "We chose Merlin Gerin because they are a big name in the industry and we knew they would have parts available for the feeder pillars throughout Europe.
Colt's policy is to buy the best equipment wherever it is from.
We do not necessarily prefer UK-based products unless they are the best".
"Merlin Gerin had products that fitted our requirements almost exactly and they were willing to customise them to meet our needs.
The Outdoor Feeder Pillar is a robust product that we expect to be in operation for around 25 years".
The complete system will see 19 Outdoor Feeder Pillars installed in four European countries.
