Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 22, 2002

Contec is the latest company to join the expanding Mitsubishi Electric Melsmart initiative.

Contec is the latest company to join the expanding Mitsubishi Electric Melsmart initiative.

This also follows the successful integration of Contec's miniature PC into Mitsubishi's Qn Series PLC rack, providing a network-free PC platform.

These moves underline the increasing importance of technology convergence in the automation marketplace.

Forward thinking manufacturers, like Mitsubishi and Contec have recognised this and are working together to offer customers a complete automation rich environment.

In the words of Bill Gates "Business is going to change more in the next 10 years than it has in the last 50".

This is not just in technology, but in the way companies create partnerships to offer customers 'best in class solutions'.

Contec, whose head office is in Osaka, Japan, has its European headquarters in Hoofddrorp, Netherlands.

It is an ISO9001 certified supplier, which prides itself on solving customers' problems.

Its main activity is the manufacture of an extensive range of factory IT products, such as Industrial PCs, industrial network products (such as Ethernet hubs and gateways) and single board computers.

Mitsubishi, with an ever expanding range of hardware, software and support services under the Melsmart banner, can now help bridge the gap between automation equipment and customers ERP system.

Steve Jones, Divisional Manager of Mitsubishi says of the partnership: "We first had dealings with Contec when they developed CC-Link interfaces to connect onto our PLC products.

We realised from our first encounter that they were leading the way in the development and manufacture of automation information technology products for demanding environments.

With the addition of Contec to the Melsmart partnership we can now offer our customers solutions which are closely tailored to meet their business needs".
