Compact positioning table cuts installation times

A Micromech product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 7, 2008

The integration of the slide guide and precision ballscrew eliminates complex precision adjustment, reducing installation time dramatically compared to assembling individual components.

Micromech has released the URS single-axis positioning table, which integrates a linear bearing and precision ballscrew, making it compact while outperforming conventional positioning tables.

This is made possible by a U-shaped steel guide rail and a re-circulating bearing module which provides the dual functions of a guide block and a ball screw nut.

The U-shaped guide rail design offers a highly rigid structure that is resistant to bending, allowing the URS to be only single-end supported.

In addition the bearing module contains four ball circuits that deliver high-load capacity, high accuracy and high rigidity.

The integration of the slide guide and precision ballscrew eliminates complex precision adjustment, reducing installation time dramatically when compared to purchasing and assembling individual components.

The URS shuttle carriage contains four ball circuits and four-point contact ball grooves, which also contributes to its high rigidity.

This plus the combination of precision ground guide rail, carriage and precision grade ball screw provides high positioning accuracy.

The U-shaped guide rail and integrated carriage/ballnut design result in a compact package that allows for dramatic space savings in comparison to conventional positioning tables.

The four-row linear bearing structure maximises the rigidity of the carriage, allowing the URS to be mounted in any orientation.

They can be supplied in travel lengths from 43 to 1134mm cover a wide range, standard and short version carriages and single or dual-carriage options for increased flexibility of load carrying.

A commercial grade version offers repeatability down to +/- 5 microns, while a precision grade version offers repeatability down to +/-3 microns.

For the commercial grade loads of 9, 30 and 140kg can be carried, while the precision model handles 9, 30 and 90kg.

The tables accommodate both servo and stepper motors with flanges for NEMA 16, 17, 23 and 34 frame motors.

There is a hardcover available to protect internal components and to contain lubrication and a clean room grease option for particulate-sensitive environments.

Further options include limit switch packages with three sensors adjustable throughout the range of travel and a Raydent surface treatment option for improved rust-resistance of the steel rail.

Although it has a compact profile, due to its novel structure and its very high rigidity, it excels in one-end supported (cantilevered slide) applications.

The tables are suitable for use in semiconductor, flat panel display, data storage, digital imaging, transportation, machine automation and life science establishments.
