Motion controller handles high-speed tools

A Micromech product story

The PowerPMAC controllers offer parabolic S-curve acceleration ramps to give smooth motion and a 'look-ahead' facility for tight cornering.

The Delta Tau PowerPMAC motion controller is built on a Power PC processor with double- precision floating point capability.

It can double the speed of conventional systems while providing the platform for up to 32 axes and 32 co-ordinate systems.

Versions with dual-core processors allow trajectory and motion control, which will be handled by separate cores, providing further speed gains.

The PowerPMAC controllers offer parabolic S-curve acceleration ramps to give smooth motion and a 'look-ahead' facility, through which motion blocks are identified in advance, allowing automatic deceleration for tight cornering.

This is useful for machine tools, laser cutting and other controls where geometric paths are followed.

The PowerPMAC provides PCI, USB and Ethernet connectivity as standard.

The open architecture and Linux-based real-time operating system offer sub-microsecond response times for interrupts.
