Visitors from more than 40 companies across the UK took the opportunity to attend the Mikron (Birmingham) Open House where, in addition to a selection of established machines, they had the first opportunity to see the pioneering new Mikron HSM 400 in action in the UK.

The success of the event was confirmed by an order for an HSM 700.

At its UK debut, the new machine, with integrated pallet changer, attracted a great deal of interest, particularly as its low entry price will enable companies who currently run single shifts, but would like to build their business towards overnight and automated operation, to progress in that direction.

"The HSM 400 allows people to move into automation gradually," explains Mikron MD Martin Leaper, "Because the machine is so reasonably priced, customers can use it in a traditional way, for the majority of the time, and only use the automatic pallet-changer when it is required.

At last it is possible to operate unmanned shifts without major additional investment." Other machines being demonstrated included the HSM 700, the VCP 600 and 710 and the VC1000.

To emphasise the integration capabilities of the Mikron machines into complete manufacturing processes AGIE supported the show with a Mondostar 50, Charmilles Technologies with a CT Robofil 190 and NC Graphics demonstrated their Machining Strategist, rapid machining automatic CAM software.

"We have been delighted with the Open House," concludes Martin, "We have always believed in showing our products in action, doing live demonstrations, with technical and applications experts on hand to answer questions and discuss client requirements in detail.

We have absolute confidence in our products and are happy to put them to the test, knowing they will pass with flying colours.".
